Neurosurgery is the medical specialty dedicated to the diagnosis and surgical treatment of disorders of the central nervous system – composed of the brain and spinal cord – and the peripheral nervous system – made up of nerves located in the upper and lower limbs (such as the sciatic nerve). The most common disorders of the nervous system are related to the spinal cord – namely fractures, herniated discs and narrowing of the spinal canal in adults, often associated with spondylarthritis (spondylosis).
Neurosurgeons are qualified to perform a variety of surgical techniques, both conventional and recently developed due to constant innovation, which they selectively apply in the treatment of various pathologies.
For a faster and more accurate neurosurgical diagnosis on an outpatient basis, essential complementary exams are available at Joaquim Chaves Saúde units, in the areas of Neuroradiology (CT, MRI), Radiology (ultrasound, bone scintigraphy and bone densitometry) and Neurophysiology (electroencephalogram (EEG) and electromyogram (EMG)).
In our medical clinics, the specialty of Neurosurgery is composed of a team of experienced surgeons and is specially equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, with the goal of providing effective safe, quick, and comfortable treatment.
